Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust
“Get On Track” is a national programme aimed at young people Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET). Developed by DKHLT, the programme utilises the expertise of former and present sports stars who mentor the young people that have attended and completed the Get On Track programme. "Get on Track" Enfield was the first programme undertaken by DKHLT in the north London borough. Focus Fitness UK, also located in Enfield, were the Trust’s lead delivery agency.
Focus Fitness UK designed and delivered a refreshed programme making it possible for these young people to study for a Level 1 Award in Assisting Health Related Activity Sessions. The young men took part in many challenging and wide-ranging activities, including rock climbing, fencing, boxing and keep-fit sessions. The efforts of the participants were rewarded with a fantastic 65% pass rate.
The young people also took part in an interactive three-day Podcast and Interview workshop arranged and delivered by Meeco London, a first for “Get On Track”. The participants learnt the basic principles of journalist interviews and producing an audio podcast. With Robin Sooklall providing the journalistic input and Ricky Russell the recording work, the group were able to turn the tables on their professional sports mentors. Listen, as athletes Montell Douglas, 100 meter sprinter and current British record holder, JJ Jegede Great Britain long jumper, along with former British Taekwondo champion Romaine Bailey, are put through their paces talking about their athletic and mentoring careers. Check out how the young men got on with their interviewing debuts … on Nobody Cares FM.
